Best Interview questions and answers of Microprocessor and Microcontroller.

In this tutorial, we are going to learn about the Best Interview Questions and answers of the Microprocessor and Microcontroller.

1.What is a microprocessor?

  • It is integrated computer circuit which performs all the function of a central processing unit (CPU).
  • It is a semiconductor device (integrated circuit) which is manufactured by using the LSI (large scale integration) technique.
  • It includes the ALU (arithmetic logic unit), register arrays, and control circuits on a single chip.

2. What is read-only memory (ROM)?

A memory that stores binary information permanently which can be read from this memory but cannot be altered.

3. What is a microcomputer?

It is a device that is designed using a microprocessor as its CPU (central processing unit). It includes microprocessor, memory and I/O (input and output).

4. What is Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU)?

It is the group that provides timing and signals to all operations in a computer and control data flow.

5. What is a microcontroller?

It is a device that includes a microprocessor, memory, and inputs and outputs (I/O) signal lines on a single chip, fabricated using very large scale technology (VLSI).

6. What is an assembler?

When a computer program translates an assembly language program from memories to the binary machine code of a computer.

7. What is a control bus?

It is the signal line that is generated by the memory protection unit (MPU) to provide the timing of various operations.

8. What is a flag?

The data conditions, after arithmetic or logic operation, are indicated by setting or resetting the flip flop called flags.

9. What is an instruction set?

When the entire group of instructions determines what functions the microprocessor can perform are called instructions set.

10. What is the American standard code for information interchange (ASCIT) code?

ASCII code is a 7-bit code that represents both decimal numbers, alphabet. Extended ASCII is an 8-bit code.

11. What is memory-mapped input and output (I/O)?

When an output device is connected at the address, the accumulator contents will be transferred to the output device, it is called memory-mapped I/O.

12. What is partial decoding?

The output port can be selected by decoding some of the address lines is called partial decoding.

13. What is SIM?

It is full form is set to interrupt mask; it is a 1-byte instruction. Used for three functions.

  • To set the mask.
  • To reset the flip – flop.
  • Implement the I/O.

14. What is parallel to serial conversion?

In serial transmission, an 8-bit parallel word should be converted into a stream of eight serial bits. It is known as parallel to serial conversion.

15. What is serial to parallel conversion?

In serial reception, the MPU (memory protection unit) receives a stream of eight bits and it is converted in to 8-bit parallel word. It is known as serial to parallel conversion.

16. What is analogue to digital (A/D) and digital to analogue converter (D/A)?

D/A converts transform a digital signal to an equivalent analogue signal, and A/D convert transform an analogue signal to an equivalent digital signal.
