3. What is a single-phase rectifier?

Single-phase rectifiers are used to convert AC supply voltage and current to DC, as required for powering equipment and digital electronic devices. A single diode is required for a single-phase wave rectification and three diodes for a three-phase supply.

4. What is a 3 phase rectifier?

Answer

A 3 phase rectifier is a device that rectifies the input AC voltage with the use of a 3 phase transformer and 3 diodes which are connected to each of the three-phase of transformer secondary winding.

5. What is a half-wave rectifier?

Answer

A half-wave rectifier is a rectifier that produces half-cycles at the output for the one-half cycle of the input and zero output for the half cycle of the input. Half-wave rectifiers use one diode.

12. What causes a rectifier to fail?

Answer

The rectifier failure involves the battery, If the link is bad and the voltage is faulty, this can cause the regulator rectifier to run hotter than usual. Things like poor grounding, a loose or weak battery and a worn battery connection can all lead to regulator failure.

13. Why filter is used in rectifiers?

Answer

The filter is a device that allows passing the DC component of the rectifier output. While the output of the filter will be steady DC voltage and capacitor is used to block the DC and allow AC to pass.

14. Why is bridge rectifier mostly used in circuits?

A bridge rectifier is preferred in high voltage applications because it has high peak inverse voltage. It has a high transformer utilization factor. It can be constructed with or without a transformer like it does not require a centre tap transformer.

15. What is the difference between a converter and rectifier?

Answer

The rectifier is AC to DC converted with the help of diodes only. A converter is also an AC to DC converter with the help of the thyristors. The rectifier converts AC into DC while converters convert AC into DC or DC into AC.
